AUSTRALIA - NORTHERN TERRITORY - APRIL 2006
25 photosI always seem to end up in Australia at the wrong time of year - I've never been there in spring or summer. However, Iain Campbell wanted to check out some sites he hadn't been to for a very long time and visit some new ones (ask me about Borroloola sometime...), and the timing worked out well just before my Sichuan, China trip. The Top End and Kakadu were absolutely great, but once we got down to Alice Springs and Uluru, the birding got so slow it was hard to keep up enthusiasm. One day it was so bad that we gave up by about 9:00am and went back to the hotel to work on a proposal! But it is a neat (albeit expensive) area to travel in with huge, wide open spaces and plenty of interesting characters to meet along the way. My favorite photo in this gallery, the Northern Rosella, was digiscoped. A few shots were taken with a Canon DSLR, including the first six.
