It's
a crap photo, but it's such an odd bird I added it anyway. Found in
mature, very wet rainforest from eastern Panama to northwest Ecuador,
it's taxonomic placement has long been a subject of debate. The most
recent research shows that it is actually the only New World member of
the Old World broadbills (link to references here). That would be hard to guess
based on the fantastically colorful plumage of most of that family. |
